MARKETING: KEY TO SUCCESS ! It has been around forever. It influences us every day. It determines what we eat,what we wear,where we go. It influences the music we listen to. We have to be CONVINCED to purchase certain products. This is done through effective Marketing. Once we are convinced we need something we get it. Music is a product that is Marketed to certain groups of people. No matter how good something is,without proper Marketing it is destined to FAIL ! There are closets filled with tapes,vinyl lps,and cds just sitting there collecting dust. People spent thousands of dollars making all of these recordings (many of them,great) only to end up sitting in someones closet. If nobody knows about your product you will never be able to sell it. Most musicians have no clue how to go about marketing their music or themselves. Listeners need to be convinced that they want to listen to and purchase your music. #1 Make sure that you have music that is Worth listening to. Good songs,well produced and well recorded that will stand up against everyone else. #2 You NEED to have a Digital Music Distributor. You will not get very far without one. There are many out wanting you to signup with them. Distrokid,Tunecore, and Cd Baby have been around a long time, There are dozens of other DMDs around all offering different options. You need to take time,review each one and see which one best suits your needs,then SignUp. Your Digital Music Distributor will then pitch your music to Digital Platforms like Spotify,I Tunes,along with many smaller lesser known Digital Platforms. They can also help you get your music on LEGIT PLAYLISTS where your music will actually be heard by listeners. Remember that each listener is a potential Fan who will follow and purchase your new music when it comes out in the future. #3 if you are serious about your music career you NEED a Website. It does not need to be extravagant or flashy. You just want people to know who you are with a nice Bio photos samples of your music and most important direct them to where they can purchase your music. That is Good Marketing. You have to look at your music as a Business. Take time,watch videos,read articles,research other people who have successful music careers. Take advice, learn from them and avoid the mistakes others are making. Is any of this easy? NO It requires diligence, If you are really serious about your music you will do whatever it takes to make it succeed.
